Clinical Dietitian II - Clinical Dietetic Department

LEVEL: STAFF
PURPOSE: Patient Care

1.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
  • 1.1 REPORTS TO: Manager, Clinical Dietetics.
  • 1.2 RESPONSIBLE FOR: Own task

2.0 JOB SUMMARY: Collaborates with members of health care team to provide medical nutrition therapy for patients.
Coordinates all phases of nutrition care including nutrition assessment, care plan, monitoring, evaluation, education, and counseling of hospitalized patients and outpatients in a variety of settings.
Perform duties in support of and in compliance with performance improvement plans.

3.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy integrated with the patient’s medical goals.
• Screen patients to determine nutrition risk.
• Assess, evaluate, interpret, monitor and document the nutritional status and nutritional needs of hospitalized patients and out patients using established standards of care and practice guidelines.
• Assess patient learning needs, barriers to learning, preferred learning styles and education level and any previous nutrition education.
• Identify and provide age-specific nutrition counseling to meet the cultural needs of the patients and their families.
• Implement nutrition care plan and provide nutrition education appropriate to the patient’s nutritional needs.
• Continuously evaluate the nutrition care plan and outcomes.
• Develop, review, update and implement nutrition educational materials to meet the needs of patients and professionals.
• Base clinical practice on sound scientific principles, current research and theory.
• Manages low and medium risk patients without supervision, and high risk patients requiring advanced care under the supervision of Clinical Dietitian I.
• Acts as a preceptor for newly hired clinical staff.
• Supervise the work of Assistant Dietitians, and Diet Aides provide input into evaluation but don’t directly evaluate their performance.
• Provide in-service education for Physicians, Nurses, Clinical Dietitians, Assistant Dietitians, Diet Aides and food service staff.
• Comply with Clinical Dietetics meetings and attendance standards.
• Function as an integral member of the clinical multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in nutrition-related community activities and programs.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.
• Prepare and document monthly and annual statistics.
• Follow hospital policies and procedures.
• Attend mandatory training.
• Performs other related duties and projects as assigned and directed by the Manager of Clinical Dietetics.

4.0 EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

• Baccalaureate degree from recognized university in Clinical Nutrition.
• Eligible for licensure with the Ministry of Health.
• Fluency in English.

5.0 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

• 1 year internship
• 2 years work experience as a Clinical Dietitian in hospital settings for non-Saudis

6.0 SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

Previous experience in hospital settings is preferred.
Fluency in Arabic is preferred.

7.0 PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIRED:

Patient rounds walking and standing.

8.0 HOURS/SHIFT WORK:

Work 48 hours per week, excluding breaks. Must be available to work one or all shifts in department.

9.0 CONDITIONS:
