Ultrasonographer - Allied Health

PURPOSE: Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks utilizing high frequency ultrasound waves to assist with the detection of anatomical abnormalities.

1.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
1.1 REPORTS TO: The Section Head
1.2 RESPONSIBLE FOR: None

2.0 JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks utilizing high frequency ultrasound waves to assist with the detection of anatomical abnormalities.

3.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs a variety of complex specialized tasks utilizing ultrasonic high frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities including masses, abscesses, and stones. Assist physicians with biopsy procedures, guiding biopsy instrument using sonographic techniques.

• Performs ultrasound procedures, color droppler vascular examinations, abnormal studies and color-flow ultrasound, Ob-Gyn procedures as required.

• Utilizes accessory equipment such as transducers, multi-format cameras, printers, and PACS workstations.

• Prepares patients for procedures, explain procedures to patients. Report changes in patient condition to medical staff. Provide an oral and written summary of preliminary findings to the radiologist. Evaluate quality of sonograms. Determine if additional sonograms or ultrasound procedures are indicated.

• Assists in training of Rad Tech/Ultrasound students during clinical rotations.

• Maintains patient records in division.

• Charges procedures and supplies in Radiology Information Systems. Archive and de-archive ultrasound data. Orient new ultrasonographers; provide education and training to new sonographers. Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein.

• Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job, as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

4.0 EDUCATION AND LICENSURE: Must be qualified as a Radiology Specialist

5.0 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: OBS/GYN experience that includes structural surveys, Doppler and 3D/4D experience.

6.0 SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE: BLS Certification

7.0 HOURS/SHIFT WORK: 48 hours per week that may require periodic evening and weekend cover, as per Department shift system
